El Sol™ began producing some of the finest Dominican cigars in the late 1920s. In 1929, El Sol opened its first US cigar store in Ybor City, Florida, quickly becoming the oldest and most respected cigar store in the Tampa area. For 93 years, customers have been able to buy premium cigars, handmade in the Dominican Republic and delivered throughout the United States. Three generations of the Saitta family—Guy, his son Tony, and grandson Bob—have managed this family business. The first El Sol™ cigar was crafted by Guy Saitta in 1929, in a shop originally located on 7th Avenue in the Ybor section of Tampa. Both Guy and Mary, master cigar makers, dedicated themselves to their craft. Guy was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1904, while Mary was born in Tampa in 1907. El Sol is recognized as the second oldest cigar brand in America; the oldest being the J.C. Newman Cigar Company, which was established in 1895. Additionally, J.C. Newman is the oldest family-owned premium cigar maker in the United States. Their historic El Reloj factory in Tampa, Florida, is the last remaining cigar factory from the early 1900s, located close to where El Sol began in Ybor City.

In 2015, El Sol™, a brand with a rich history in the premium cigar market, was acquired by a friend of Bob Saitta. From 2015 until 2021, production volumes of El Sol cigars decreased until a long-time customer, Marco Zvanik, realized that this esteemed company could not simply fade away after 93 years. Determined to restore its legacy, he set out to bring El Sol back to its former glory. With the original recipe in hand, El Sol began collaborating with some of the Dominican Republic's finest boutique tobacco producers to craft the perfect blend of premium, locally farmed, organically produced tobacco. Due to our commitment to quality, you won't find El Sol cigars in just any cigar shop; they are produced in small batches using only premium grade tobaccos. For this reason, there is a limited quantity of El Sol cigars made available each year. When they are gone, they are truly gone, making them a prized find for those who love to buy cigars.
