THE SCIENCE BEHIND El Sol Cigars

One of the most important things about smoking a cigar, is that you are able to enjoy the flavor of the burning tobacco.  When tobacco burns, it generates smoke.  With each puff, the smoke is drawn through the inside of the cigar and across the tobacco that has not yet been burned.  Over time, this smoke will build up on the unburnt tobacco will begin to affect its flavor.  To minimize this normal but unpleasant effect, El Sol cigars have the highest aspect ratio possible to reduce any negative impact on flavor.  For this reason all El Sol cigars are only available in a Grande - 60 ring X 6 inch long cigar.

As you can see from the chart,  you cannot increase the aspect ratio of a cigar by simply increasing the diameter or making the cigar longer.  The term "aspect ratio" is the comparison of the length of the cigar to its diameter, therefor both parameters need to be considered when designing "The perfect cigar size".  

El Sol took these factors into consideration when designing the new 2025 Grande series of cigars.  The Grande which is a 60 ring by 6 inches long, offers the cigar smoker the highest aspect ratio of any other cigar available.  The other advantage, is that the Grande will enable you to enjoy your cigar for at least 1 to 2 hours, when smoked properly.  

When smoking any cigar, it is important that a cigar is not left too long between puffs so that the embers die out but just as important is that the cigar is not smoked too fast so that to much heat is created inside the cigar, causing it to become bitter.  

All cigars are comprised of three basic components;

• The Filler
• The Binder
• The Wrapper

The type of tobaccos used for each section is just as important as the part of the tobacco leaf that is used.  How the tobacco is aged, the soil it was grown in are just a few of the items El Sol manages when growing and selecting tobacco that will be used to make our cigars.   We only grow and use tobacco from organically raised farms.  Pesticide free and we measure the amount of sulfur, and other minerals in the soil so that our tobacco leaves will have a soft and chocolatey flavor.
